The River

"And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes."

~ Ezekiel 47:9

Since we've been out on this journey with God, we have had the honor of camping beside many different rivers. We have observed that the river goes where it desires. Nothing stops the river from moving...no rocks, no debris, no man. Not even a man-made dam can prevent the river from moving, because the waters will continue to flow over the banks onto new soil and eventually saturate the once previous dry ground.

The Lord continues to overwhelm us with His amazing love for mankind. Even when we think we are making a random stop to visit friends or family, He reveals to us it was actually His plan from the beginning. ("A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps." ~ Proverbs 16:9). God is a God of purpose and design, and if we would learn to rest in His presence we would discover just how truly remarkable He is. (Psalm 46:10 ~ "Be still, and know that I am God..."). What you thought was your idea, you discover God was orchestrating it all along the way. We heard someone once say, "God can orchestrate a thing much better than man can manipulate a thing." That's absolute truth! We've lived it.

When God gave us the name, River of H.O.P.E. (Healing, Outrageous love, Provision, Empowering), we had no earthly idea why or what that even meant for us. However, God knew and that's all that mattered. More times than we care to admit, we ask God, "Why us?" He has always told us, "Because you said yes." Before leaving Monroeville, Alabama, we once again asked, "Why us, Lord?" His response this time was, "Because I can trust your yes." This made us wonder how many people put a contingency on their yes? Luke 6:46 states, "But why do you call me Lord, Lord and not do the things which I say?"

This journey...this ministry...is all God's design. Our only part is obedience to Him and His Word. God is a God of Purpose. He is Faithful. He is Good. He is God all by Himself. Again we say, "Thank You, Lord, for choosing to use two ordinary people to carry Your extraordinary dream."
